The authors compared the Global Burden of Disease 2010 with Cochrane reviews to identify research gaps.
The Cochrane ENT topics covered by the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) 2010 project were:
- Hearing loss
- Otitis media
- Pharyx and oropharynx caner
- Larynx cancer
- Nasopharynx cancer
- Upper respiratory infections
The authors identified that hearing loss and the three cancer topics were among the areas under-represented when comparing the number of Cochrane reviews and protocols to disease-adjusted life years (DALY), as studied by the GBD 2010 project.
It is worth noting that GBD 2010 does not include tinnitus or dizziness, therefore these reviews are not looked at here.
